Achievements were added as a new gameplay mechanic in the Minecraft Beta 1.5 Update, along with Weather and Statistics.
Achievements are earned by doing certain things. There are some easy-to-achieve ones, like opening the inventory, and just plain bizarre ones like riding a Pig off a cliff.
When an achievement is completed, a message will come up saying "Achievement Get!". The achievements screen can be accessed from the in-game menu.

| Bake Bread | Turn Wheat into Bread. | You must have completed the achievement "Time to Farm!", and you must know how to harvest crops and craft them into Bread using the Workbench. |
| The Lie | Wheat, Sugar, Milk and Eggs! | You must have completed the achievement "Time to Farm!", and you must know how to harvest crops and craft Cake using the Workbench. |
| Time to Strike! | Use Planks and Sticks to make a Sword. | You must have completed the achievement "Benchmarking" and know how to craft a Wooden Sword using the Workbench. |

| Hot Topic | Construct a furnace out of eight Stone blocks. | You must have completed the achievement "Time to Mine!", and know how to craft a Furnace using the Workbench. |
| Delicious Fish | Catch and cook fish! | You must have completed the achievement "Hot Topic" and know how to cook fish using the Furnace. |
